Check out Neil’s blog as he shares his thoughts and experiences at JWPT after 6 weeks of coaching to change his lifestyle and go from DadBOD to DadGOD.
Results; when adopting this diet for 5 days on and 2 days off (first 4 weeks) and then falling back to carbs, beer and wine at the weekend the results were average, I was training hard and getting fitter but you just couldn’t tell unless you saw me training or were my heart and lungs… I thought I was doing well, the reality was I was ruining 5 days of clean eating and going back 3 or 4 days every time I fell off… the 5 days on and 2 days off was not Jakes idea, he was clear this required full commitment but I always felt I could out train a diet and anything consumed was just fuel, this may have been the case when playing in lung busting team sports but the reality is different now. The key learning from this which Jake does remind me is ‘you cannot out train a diet’, it is annoying but it is true.
For the last two weeks I have stuck with the diet exclusively and adopting Jake’s language being ‘consistent’… the difference is visible! Lost more body fat in 2 weeks than the first 4 combined. I Feel fitter, leaner and ready to train. Some carbs in the evening makes a massive difference to sleep and I enjoy breakfast more!! My abs are beginning to reintroduce themselves to the outside world and generally people are noticing a difference… I feel great. I do have some road bumps to come and I will need to work even harder in the next 6 weeks but to be absolutely clear the diet is everything!! But I feel great…
Training
The interval training given to me by Jake looks easy on paper with plenty of rest but I can tell you now they are getting seriously hard, I have tried to deliver them all through running as this is the best form of fat burning. They ramp up quite quickly and it’s interesting to note how hard 100% running effort can be over 50 seconds.
The strength training starts in the classroom or more specifically the ‘Cave’. Jake begins with breaking down every movement and position to ensure every second of strength training puts the identified muscle group under the maximum strain and stress. No movement is wasted, everything is done under tension and it hurts, really hurts… The results are evident as a nothing strains my lower back injury and every movement is just that slow, controlled and hitting the muscles hard… I am now really enjoying every minute in the gym, it used to be that running outdoors was more fun, this has changed. I cannot wait for gym sessions, I do however know there is new elements to come and so might reconsider this whole paragraph in 6 weeks, watch this space.
Finally, is the 121 PT sessions with Jake, these are brutal, when you fatigue he keeps you going, when you think of the heaviest weight you could lift Jake puts 20kg more on, when you feel like you want to cry Jake reminds you why you are there… Strangely I enjoy this part of my plan the most… I think, in fact, I know that I am getting every last piece of effort possible and the hour is the best hour I could give. If only everything was like that in life…
6 weeks to go…
Thanks for all your support and pain Jake!
Cheers,
Neil
