Every year between Christmas & new year I’d feel the anxiety of having to have everything figured out.
I felt like I needed this elaborate plan to make this year my best year yet.
While I think that’s good practice I also think it causes a lot of unnecessary stress & fear…
… if you really want to have the best year yet.
Here are my 10 things to consider going into 2024.
1. Stop trying to achieve a decade worth of results in less than 6-12 months.
Just remember Usain Bolt would train for 4 years just for 9 seconds. The most successful people in anything have done the test of time. You cannot cut corners.
2. Do you want to get in your best shape? Focus on training 4x per week & eating well balanced and hitting your calorie target daily. The goal will come as a by-product of your daily actions.
3. Don’t become one dimensional, set goals in all areas of your life from personal, career, relationship, education and more.
Create your own vision board…
4. Think long term. Don’t sell yourself short by setting insane short term targets with impossible deadlines. Yes, that can be good at times but most of the time you should think…
I have an aspiration (and the potential) to build a team of the best personal trainers who can deliver one of the best coaching programs in the UK.
That’s not going to happen in the next 12 months but it can happen in the next 10 years.
5. Think big too. Don’t short change yourself by setting highly achievable and comfortable targets either.
There needs to be change from where you are now to where you want to be. Your actions, habits and behaviour must change too.
6. Set milestones. This allows us check point along our journey to our long term goal.
For me, An example could be… Train a professional athlete. Transform a clients lifestyle to take them from being overweight to the best shape of their life.
These are all things we can work towards.
7. Learn to say no more. Sure, you can do everything but it will always be average. Do less but do it better.
You can achieve many things in the next 10 years but not all at once.
Figure out for yourself what is “f%ck yes and a hell no.”
8. Prioritise yourself more. You don’t need to figure your year out in the next 5 days, you’ve got time. Acknowledge your personal growth, wins & success over the past 6-12 months. Take a mental note of what needs to grow (I’m not talking about your biceps here.)
Just take a breath. You’ve got time.
9. Willingness to change. We grow through what we go through. You should be excited by the thought of change, be willing to do it and immerse yourself in the process too.
Its part of self-discovery as its going to take you to where you want to be and to achieve things you’ve not accomplished before.
It’s not a race against others, don’t be mistaken by this.
10. Engage with coaching, mentoring or therapy. Having an external person to speak to can be of the most empowering things you could do.
Find someone who is in your corner, Who doesn’t judge you.
Who wants you to win, Who can hold the weight of your mistakes.
Who can support you to make better decisions. Who will hold you accountable to your word.
I hope you find this useful, This was just going to be 6 considerations but it quickly turned into 10 things to help you start 2024 on the front foot. Thanks for reading, Pass it on.
